Largemouth bass are the kings of freshwater fishing here in Fellsmere. These green-backed bruisers average 2-5 pounds, but 10+ pounders aren't unheard of. You'll find them lurking around vegetation, fallen trees, and dock pilings in our warm, shallow waters. Spring and fall are prime times, but you can catch them year-round. Largemouths are famous for their aggressive strikes and powerful runs – when one slams your lure, you'll know it! They're also known for their huge mouths, which can easily inhale baits as big as your hand. Pitching soft plastics or worms to cover is a tried-and-true tactic, but topwater lures can provoke some heart-stopping blow-ups, especially early morning or late evening. One local trick: when the bite's tough, try a slow-rolled spinnerbait along weed edges. These fish can't resist the flash and vibration.
